Earwax is a natural substance produced by glands in the ear canal, and some people produce more than others. Impacted earwax that fully blocks the ear canal can lead to several issues, including:
Hearing loss
Earache
Itching
Fullness in the ear
It’s important to resist the urge to clean your ears with cotton swabs. These can push earwax deeper into the ear canal and potentially damage the ear.
Treatment
At McNamara Hearing, our provider can look into your ears with a video otoscope to assess your earwax accumulation and recommend a method of removal. For our patients, this is something we do at every visit to monitor and remove before it can fully occlude the ear.
