Frequently Asked Questions

Your hearing aid has extremely advanced technology in a very small space. Some common reasons why it might need repair:

  • Buildup of ear wax or debris: earwax, moisture, body oils, hairspray are all things that can clog your hearing aid and affect its performance

  • Damage: drops, spills, or exposure to extreme temperatures can harm your device

  • Wear and tear: over time, components of your hearing aid may eventually wear out

Our patients have the peace of mind that they are covered under their manufacturer’s warranty and our extended Treatment Plans for most hearing aid repairs that arise.

If you are not a current patient of McNamara Hearing in a current Treatment Plan, potential costs for repairs include:

  • If you have an active manufacturer warranty on your aids, you would incur our a la carte Office Visit charge

  • If your device is out of warranty but we can fix it in-house, you would incur our a la carte Office Visit charge as well as any additional fees for parts (eg. replacing a receiver)

  • If your device is out of warranty and we have to send it out to be repaired, you would incur the appropriate a la carte fee associated with that service.

It becomes quite costly to repair older hearing aids, especially those more than 5 years old. At some point, manufacturers also stop producing parts for older hearing aids, so we can no longer service them.

It may make sense to invest in new hearing aids, rather than continuing to repair the old ones. Replacing them allows you to keep up with the latest advancements and makes any repair easier and more affordable by getting you back under warranty.
